Star-struck
2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards
We’ve always loved film, fashion, and celebrities, but we may have taken this adoration to a whole new level when we attended the Orange BAFTA Awards red carpet last week at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Despite the rain, we were in good spirits around 5 p.m. when the crowd began to make a lot of noise as a familiar head of red hair was spotted; Rupert Grint had arrived. The Harry Potter actor was just the beginning as more cars pulled up and more famous faces approached us. Actors such as Julianne Moore (on the arm of Tom Ford), Mark Ruffalo, James McAvoy (swoon), Dominic Cooper (double swoon) all stopped by to take pictures and sign autographs.
However, all hell may have broken loose when Sir Paul McCartney, Emma Watson, and the king himself Colin Firth, all showed up in quick succession. Sir Paul bounced around and signed a few books (not ours unfortunately), and gave us a thumbs up. Cheesy? Perhaps. But we’ll take anything a Beatle gives us.
Colin Firth, looking lovely and dapper as always, did give us his signature. After expressing our thanks at signing our book, he may or may not have called us “love.” We may or may not have melted on the spot.
Emma Watson was her usual gorgeous self and we decided we like her haircut now that we’ve seen it up close. And we mean really close.

Winter Colour
Gestaltkunstwerke Vases by Markus Linnenbrink
It was love at first sight when we saw these colourful vessels by artist Markus Linnenbrink for ArtwareEditions. The title for this series of vases by Linnenbrink is a play on the phrase, Gesamtkunstwerk, which roughly translated means, “universal artwork” or “total artwork.”
Each vase is handmade, completely unique and incorporates a whimsical approach to recycling. As he makes his paintings and sculptures, the artist is left with an excess of pigmented epoxy resin. He layers this leftover resin inside discarded plastic juice, water, or soda bottles and creates an inner water-proof cavity by inserting smaller post-consumer vessels such as paint bottles or water bottles. Once cured, he removes the outer plastic bottle to reveal the smooth and radiant forms, allowing the viewer to truly see and appreciate these usually-overlooked designs in a permanent and useful way.

Lisa Jones Studio
Founded by Lisa Jones and partner Edward Underwood, Lisa Jones Studio create a range of goods both printed and pressed. Greetings cards, gift wrap, tea towels and books abound with their whimsical creatures and retro-inspired prints, and a range of ceramics will soon be available.
Both parties are adamant that, wherever possible, ethical sourcing of materials and principled methods of production are built into the ethic of good design.
Social Suicide
Irresistible tailoring from Simon Waterfall’s Social Suicide label. Savile Row cuts at Carnaby Street prices – we like. Lots of dubious dictators seen in the lining – so it depends whether you have a bent for military heroes or tyrants.
Lazerian at Interiors 2010

Lazerian Bravais armchair
We love Lazerian, and were thrilled to see their new collection of Honeycomb furniture in Designersblock at Interiors 2010.
The Honeycomb range of furniture emerged as part of a collaborative project between furniture designer Liam Hopkins and artist Richard Sweeney at Lazerian studio, Manchester.
The Bravais armchair looks great au naturel, but we can’t wait to see the upholstered version which we’re told is coming soon..
