A Revolution in Toilet Architecture

The Tokyo Toilet Project (an initiative of The Nippon Foundation) featured 12 exemplary projects by leading architects and designers including works by Tadao Ando, Shigeru Ban, and Kengo Kuma with the aim to improve the daily life of residents and visitors 24 hours a day. The architects and designers have done this by creating light-filled spaces with universal and fully accessible designs where hygiene and comfort play a pivotal role. TOTO’s London showroom hosted a talk and exhibition to celebrate this extraordinary project in Japan for which they supplied all the fittings and WASHLETs.

Legendary film director Wim Wenders is lined up to shoot an original film set in Tokyo and around its renovated public toilets in Shibuya in collaboration with The Tokyo Toilet Project. The film is to star Koji Yakusho. Watch this space. Industry Publicity has worked with TOTO since 2014 delivering ongoing support for events, exhibitions, social and PR, we are pleased to have organised and delivered the Tokyo Toilet exhibition and talk which over 80 architects and designers and industry professionals attended.

Speakers at TOTO: L-R Tim Gledstone, Squire & Partners; Hiroyuki Higashimoto, TOTO UK; Midori Ainoura, PLP Architecture; Amy Frearson, Moderator/editor-at-large, Dezeen and Professor Jo-Anne Bichard, RCA.

A huge thanks to our wonderful speakers and collaborators, who helped make this such a successful event.
